Utilizing knowledge I’ve gained from over 15 years of experience as a journalist and filmmaker I founded Shango Light Films, through which I produce, executive produce and direct compelling documentaries and short films that shine light on moments in cultural shifts, and varying experiences throughout the African diaspora and other marginalized communities around the world.

The company name is derived from the name Sango - pronounced ‘shone-go’ - and often spelled "Shango". In Yoruba mythology, Shango is perhaps the most important Orisha; he is a Sky Father, God of Thunder & Lightning, and the ancestor of the Yoruba. He was the fourth king of the Yoruba, and deified after his death.

The Bamgbose name, (of my late father), represents the name of the priests who were bearers of the staff of worship for Shango. Shango’s spirit, along with my father’s commitment to community and allowing peoples voices to be valued, help guide the intention of the films we create. Fittingly, the spirit of Shango also symbolizes courage, and reminds us all that truth can hurt like fire.
